SIA PERSONNEL SECURITY, EYES WIDE OPEN VIDEO This film shows the importance of SIA (Security Industry Authority) security staff and the need for the best training to support in the security role. This film will get you thinking about security, recognising suspicious behaviour and incidents. This accredited qualification is ideal for anyone wishing to work as a Door Supervisor, as it provides the necessary skills and knowledge to apply for an SIA licence and work as a Door Supervisor within the Private Security Industry.
What is covered on this course?
This is a 4 day course. This accredited qualification is ideal for anyone wishing to work as a CCTV operative, as it provides the necessary skills and knowledge to apply for an SIA licence in this field. It has been developed to meet the requirements of the Security Industry Authority (SIA). Subjects covered include roles and responsibilities of CCTV operators, codes of practice, operational procedures and guidelines, CCTV equipment and operation and surveillance techniques.
Unit 1: Working in the Private Security Industry – Core Learning for Common Security Industry Knowledge – 1 day
- Awareness of the Law in the Private Security Industry
- Health and Safety for the Private Security Operative
- Fire Safety Awareness
- Emergency Procedures
- The Private Security Industry
- Communication Skills and Customer Care
Assessed by a 40 minute, 25 question multiple-choice examination. Candidates must achieve a score of at least 18 out of 25 to pass this unit
Unit 2: Working as a CCTV Operator CCTV Operations (Public Space Surveillance) – 2 days
- Introduction to the Roles and Responsibilities of the CCTV Operator and other CCTV Staff
- Codes of Practice, Operational Procedures and Guidelines
- CCTV Equipment and its Operation
- Control Room Communications and Access Control
- Legislation
- Dealing with Incidents
- CCTV Surveillance Techniques
- Emergency Procedures in the CCTV Control Room
- Health and Safety at Work in the CCTV Environment
Assessed by a 1 hour 40 question multiple-choice examination. Learners must achieve a score of at least 28 out of 40 to pass this unit.
Unit 3: Practical use operation of CCTV equipment – 1 day Assessed by the tutor and externally moderated by HABC to pass this unit.
Successful learners will gain a certificate for this course.
How do I get on the course and get my SIA badge?

- One of our team will contact you, giving you the course date and location.
- You will then transfer payment for the course before the start date.
- From Jan 2015 the SIA now require every person that wants to do any of the SIA courses to be assessed that they are a level 1 or above in English. You can send us a copy of an English qualification of level 1 or above, or attend a free 1 & ½ hour assessment.
- On the first day of the course you will need to bring a passport photo and your ID (Passport or Driving Licence) and proof of address (Bill or Bank Statement) to the training.
To obtain the SIA licence this is split into two parts.
- The 4 day training course needs to be successful completed to gain the level 2 certificate.
- You can then apply to the Security Industry Authority (SIA) for your CCTV license, the SIA will charge you £220 for this license. When you receive your license you can work as a CCTV operator anywhere in England, Wales and Scotland.
We send the SIA License Application to the Security Industry Authority (SIA) on your behalf. It can take up to 40 working days for the SIA to process your application. but most of the time it is a lot quicker.
Where is the training held?
The 4 day CCTV Operator Level 2 training will be held in London and will be within walking distance of the train station. We are also able to deliver this course around the country at your premises for groups of 8 or more people. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
What is a Door Supervisor?
Door Supervisors maintain order and safeguard the well-being of customers on the premises. This premises could be licensed (ie Bar/Club) or even a shopping centre. Door supervisors patrol inside a property and ensure that they can be located in the event of an emergency. One of the roles can include body searches and this may involve the use of metal detectors to deter the carrying of weapons. Door Supervisors liaise closely with the police, first aiders and premises management.

Subjects covered include behavioural standards, legislation relevant to the role, search procedures, powers of arrest, recording incidents and crime preservation, reducing risk, conflict management and communicating effectively.
Unit 1: Working in the Private Security Industry – Core Learning for Common Security Industry Knowledge – 1 day (We will occasionally deliver this course over 4 days and then this unit will be studied at home before the classroom training, the test for this unit will always be done in the classroom)

Unit 2: Working as a Door Supervisor – 1 day
- Understand the behaviour appropriate for individual door supervisors, as defined by the Security Industry Authority’s (SIA) Standards of Behaviour
- Awareness of civil and criminal law relevant to door supervisors
- Understand search procedures and the reasons for having them
- Understand the powers of arrest and related procedures
- Understand relevant drug legislation and its relevance to the role of the door supervisor
- Understand incident recording and crime scene preservation
- Understand licensing law and social responsibility
- Understand and be able to follow procedures for emergency situations
Assessed by a 1 hour, 40 question multiple-choice examination. Candidates must achieve a score of at least 28 out of 40 to pass this unit.
Unit 3: Conflict Management for the Private Security Industry – 1 day
- Understand the principles of conflict management appropriate to their role
- Understand how to recognise, assess and reduce risk in conflict situations
- Understand how to communicate effectively in emotive situations and de-escalate conflict
- Understand how to develop and use problem solving strategies for resolving conflict
- Understand good practice to follow after conflict situations
Assessed by a 40 minute, 25 question multiple-choice examination. Candidates must achieve a score of at least 18 out of 25 to pass this unit
Unit 4: Physical Intervention Skills for the Private Security Industry – 2 days
- Understand physical interventions and the legal and professional implications of their use
- Understand how to reduce the risk of harm when physical intervention skills are used
- Be able to use non-pain related physical skills to protect yourself and others from assault
- Be able to use non-pain related standing holding and escorting techniques, including non-restrictive and restrictive skills
- Understand good practice to follow after physical interventions
Assessed in two parts. Part one is a practical assessment and part two is a theoretical assessment set by HABC. Successful learners will gain a certificate for this course.
